Linux Admin Scripts: Reports and Archiving
Bash scripts for routine administration: a system report, a network report, a free-RAM check and an archiver that compresses old or large files.
Problem
Routine checks on a Linux machine (disk, memory, network, clutter) are quick but easy to skip when done by hand.
How it works
System report
Date, disk usage, the five largest files in /var/log, memory, CPU information and uptime.
Approach
Small scripts that each do one job and print readable output, written while working through Linux and shell scripting alongside daily notes. The same repository holds Docker notes.
Limitations and next steps
- Learning-stage scripts: paths such as the archive directory are hard-coded and the disk-alert script still needs its threshold test fixed.
